Army National Guard 2020 250

Hooker High School senior Kaden Ritter always felt a calling to serve her country. It was a random visit to her school by recruiters in the Oklahoma National Guard that gave her the confidence to answering that calling.

“I have always wanted to join the military, but I wasn’t sure on a branch until the National Guard came to my school to talk and it inspired me to join and that’s the branch that fit everything I wanted in the service,” said Ritter.

The track athlete and FFA chapter president said she’s excited to start her military career as a 68 Echo or Dental Specialist. Ritter said she plans to use the benefits she will receive from the National Guard to attend college and pursue a degree.

“I plan on using all the benefits I can, and I plan on going to Oklahoma State University after I graduate,” said Ritter. “I am open to all of my options in the Guard, as of now, I plan on staying the 20 years as a traditional guardsman.”

Ritter looked into joining the U.S. Army and going the active duty route, but the National Guard in Oklahoma fit her needs she wanted met for her future.

“I looked into going active U.S. Army, but I wanted to stay close to home and my family while still being able to serve,” said Ritter.

Ritter will serve with the unit based out of Norman, Oklahoma when she is required to attend drill one weekend a month. Ritter said her family was a little surprised when she told them she was going to join the National Guard.

“It was something out of the blue for them. It was something I pursued first then talked to them about, but they were very supportive,” said Ritter.

Away from school, athletics and FFA you can usually find Ritter spending time with family and friends while staying involved in her community.

Congratulations to Kaden Ritter on being selected as the Oklahoma National Guard Student Spotlight of the Month.
