Fairview’s Esteli Barrera - Northwest Tech's Spotlight Presented by Northwest Technology Center
By Travis Sloat
As a cross country and track standout at Fairview High School, Esteli Barrera is no stranger to running towards goals. Thanks to Northwest Tech, she’s also running towards career goals as well.
“I take computer and business classes,” Barrera said. “This is my second year. After high school I plan on attending NWOSU to get a degree in business and a minor in art.”
“NW Tech has given me real world opportunities that will help me succeed in the future,” she continued. “With the job shadowing program and the equipment they provide, it’s given me experience I can use in the real world. Everything is hands-on and I am always excited about the next project.”
It’s not just the programs, Barrera said. The faculty and staff at NW stand out to her as well.
“The teachers are amazing,” she said. “They are always willing to go out of their way to help you. Whether it’s staying after school or just helping me with college applications. I can never thank them enough for their help.”
Barrera said she’s trying to pay forward some of that positive influence in her life to those on her track and cross-country teams who might look up to her.
“I enjoy my role of being a team leader,” she said. “I always try to be a positive influence on and off the track. Whenever someone is nervous before a race, I’ll always try to be encouraging to them.”
Between running and her classes at NW Tech, Barrera said her free time is limited, but when she gets it, she spends every bit of it painting.
