They are there at most high school football and basketball games. No, they are not on the court or field, competing in the contest, but they still play a big part in the school’s victory on the field. They are the cheerleaders and they keep the fans cheering their team to victory.

The cheer squad at Fairview High School is no different. Head coach Lori Conkling is in her third year at the helm of the Yellowjackets and says that her team’s strengths are on display every time they cheer.

“I think our squad has a couple of strengths,” she said. “We work great together as a team and we work well under pressure. I really couldn’t ask for a better group. Every time they step out to cheer, they always give it their best.”

Senior cheerleader Kacee Bode says that she enjoys being part of the team and showing her support for her school wherever she goes.

“I love being part of our cheer squad,” she said. “One thing I really like is being able to help build school spirit and help spread it. Also, Fairview is a great community that supports its students.”

Conkling says that while her team enjoys cheering, they find other ways to spend time together as a team.

“We do a lot of different stuff besides cheering,” she said. “We do cheer camps. Sometimes we do cheer practice in the pool, escape rooms, and hang out enjoying each other’s company. All of these activities help the chemistry that our team has and I think it shows when we are together.”

Trinity Towle, who is a senior and a member of the Yellowjackets cheer team, says that there are a couple of things about cheer that she really enjoys.

“I love being a part of the cheer team,” she said. “I enjoy the fun we have in practice and the cool stunts that we get to do.”
