Chisholm High School’s Jessica Corey is a very active student. She splits her time between the student council, FFA and working in the community. She has been involved in FFA since her freshman year of high school and it was an ag teacher that encouraged her to join.

“I would say my ag teacher was the one who encouraged me to become involved in FFA. I joined FFA because I lived on a farm, but I didn’t know a whole lot about FFA. My ag teacher talked me into competing at contests, and I ended up loving it,” said Corey.

FFA offers a wide variety of activities and things a person can get involved in. For Corey, traveling to the conferences and meeting new people are two of the biggest highlights.

“What I enjoy most about being in FFA is traveling to different competitions and conferences and meeting new people that share common interests,” said Corey. “I do show an animal, but most of the time, it is not with the FFA chapter. I show horses, so I usually just compete on my own.”

Having fun is part of the adventure with FFA. Just ask anyone who is a member of the Chisholm chapter. Corey serves as vice president of the chapter and they are now working on plans for the end of the year.

Away from FFA and STUCO, you can find her with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Spanish Club and National Honor Society. She also works with the Chisholm Community Outreach Team and she ran cross-country in the fall. This spring Corey plans to compete in track and play golf.

Corey said anyone can become a member of the FFA chapter at Chisholm High School. All you need is the desire to join a group that has a lot of fun and gets to do a lot of great things.

“Even if you do not come from an agricultural background, you can still be in FFA. There are so many SAE’s (Supervised Agricultural Experience) out there that will fit your hobbies or interests,” said Corey.

While her time in high school is nearing an end, Corey mentioned it was her mother who made the biggest impact in her life.

“My mother has been a big influence in my life. She is always working hard with a good heart. She encourages me to keep working hard in school to be the best I can be,” said Corey.
