Beaver’s Katy Brashears – FFA Spotlight Presented by Farm Credit of Western Oklahoma
Katy Brashears first got involved in FFA during her eighth grade year. He father is a former ag teacher and strongly encouraged her to join.
“He encouraged me to really put myself out there first by attending leadership conferences and activities and later by getting involved in public speaking,” said Brashears. “My dad is the person who encouraged me to join this organization and so many more. He is the person who always knows what to do and what to say in any situation. He is the one who is always hard on me because he sees the potential I hold to be successful. He is also the one who taught me that without God, none of this would be possible.”
As a member of FFA and now the Beaver High School chapter, Brashears has performed many jobs and taken part in many activities.
“In FFA, I am involved in Prepared Public Speaking and the Veterinary Science CDE. I’ve also attended Alumni Leadership Camps, MFE, ALD, COLT Conferences, and both State and National Conventions. I’ve held chapter offices for the last three years. This year, as a senior, I currently serve as my chapter’s vice president,” said Brashears. “I think the thing I most enjoy about being in FFA is the people. You make so many connections and friendships that you’ll have and use for the rest of your life.”
Outside of FFA, Brashears enjoys other activities such as National Honor Society, student council and being a member of the high school band. She’s also a player on the Beaver High School fastpitch softball team.
Brashears said anyone considering the FFA as an activity should go for it.
“My advice to someone considering joining FFA is to do it. Join FFA. You’ll never regret the knowledge you gain and the lifelong friendships that come from this organization. You’ll be so thankful you did; as a friend, as a leader, and as a person,” said Brashears.
